ChatGPT like AI Tool– A new Artificial Intelligence (AI), the system has been developed by a US scientist, and it has the capability to read brain waves and translate them into text. It can convert your thoughts and imagination into text.

This system is developed at the University of Texas at Austin. It is similar to the model that helps power the Open AI’s ChatGPT and Google Bard. Jerry Tang, a student at the University, has led this study along with an assistant professor named Alex Huth.

In an experiment, they made three people listen to the stories, and they connected the subject with the MRI machines. Scientists have claimed that they have successfully converted their thoughts into text without using any brain implant.

It is a helpful technology for people with mental consciousness and dealing with physical disabilities. It is helpful for people debilitated by strokes so they can talk again like before. It is even confirmed by the team of the journal Nature Neuroscience, which has completed this study.

This system is called a Semantic Decoder, and it is also in its developing phase. It doesn’t require surgical implants, which keeps the process non-invasive. This system has no limitations and allows you to think or imagine in any possible words.

However, this Semantic Decoder can only read and provide the basic gist of the thoughts now. Currently, this tool can match the thought of the subject only half of the time. This semantic decoder utilizes the functionalities of MRI scanners to train their system by scanning the hours of podcasts.

Simply put, when a participant is ready to have their thoughts decoded, an AI tool solely scans the brain activity and provides the texts based upon the imagination or listening to a story. Alex Huth (assistant professor) has mentioned that this non-invasive method produces short texts and sentences. They are even working on modifying the model so that it can generate more complicated words continuously for a longer period of time.

Many people assumed that it could be a word-for-word transcript. But, it works to collect the gist of what’s said or thought. Therefore, the device sometimes produces precisely relevant text that correlates with similar meanings.

To deeply understand the scanning power of this semantic decoder, the developers have made the subjects watch several short and silent videos. The tool has properly scanned their brain activity and correctly produced some events from the video. However, the system is not ready to practically use outside the laboratory. It requires the help of the whole fMRI machine. Therefore, the researchers also plan to make this system reliable over the fNIRS machine for portable use.

This Semantic Decoder also causes concern as it can also be misused. It wouldn’t always be used for helping purposes. Therefore, it must also be prepared for the unexpected consequences of this new AI technology. Moreover, the developers are also a little worried about mental privacy. Therefore, they are creating a technology that allows the machine to scan and generate the results only when they want.

To conclude, AI is growing very rapidly in various aspects. It has started spreading its roots in the grounds. Now, let’s see where the future leads humans. It is inevitable and is the actual future of the world. However, it is essential for humans also to keep the safer side and start researching the safety of humans from these AI technologies.
